In-patient, Residential Mental Health and Addictions Center

You have explored multiple treatment options. You are now looking for something different. We have a new option for you to consider. Let’s discuss some of the main differences

1. Approach
The main component of most treatment programs is to change the way we think of the past, in order to change our current behaviour. But what do we do if this type of therapy does not work for us?

If you want to try something different, we are advocating for goal directed activity. Past trauma is important but it is not causing our current behaviour. Imagine what would happen if we just did not talk about the past anymore, and we decided to change our behaviour today - and that the new role of health care is to help us get through today, while preparing for tomorrow.
2. Individual care – no group therapy
A main premise of many programs is group-based discussion. Our program only has individual discussion and individual care. We believe that many clients want their deeply personal circumstances to remain confidential. As well, all care will be based on you as an individual (patient centered medicine) and not based on a standardized program.
3. Multi-disciplinary care
Your main contact will be a clinical social worker who will help you each day. The other team members to assist will include a general practitioner, addictions doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, addictions worker, nurse, pharmacist, recreation therapist, dietician, life coach, spiritual advisor (if requested) and other medical specialists (if required).
4. Cost
The cost for many programs is not publicly disclosed. You have to call in to figure out the price. The most inexpensive program we could find in Western Canada was $16,625 for one month of care. As such, we are asking for $8,312.50 for one month, which includes 30 overnight stays, 90 meals, health care and numerous activities. External financing is available (monthly payments over time). Payments can be between 6 months and 60 months. Those with good credit will pay 7.95 per cent interest. There are finance programs available for those with very complicated credit histories.
5. Activities
We are located on the incredible Wakamow Valley in Moose Jaw. We have our own hockey rink, basketball court, baseball diamond, fire pit and fitness center. We have access to canoeing, kayaking, walking, running, biking, yoga, an outdoor skating oval, skiing, snowshoeing, bird watching, horse drawn carriage rides, horseback riding, disc golf, swimming, mineral spa, arts, painting, crafts, music, games room and a library.
6. No wait list
When people are ready for care, they need help immediately, and they deserve help immediately. You can start tomorrow.
7. Home Cooking
Families for Change will provide us with home cooking with natural, local food for all of our meals. On the weekends, we will bring in an executive chef while we eat our meals in an exclusive dining room with a spectacular view of the Wakamow Valley. We also offer BBQ and fire pit options.
8. Contact with family
Different from most programs, you can talk with your family members on our telephone. At your request, we will include family members (or friends) at the right time to help you start and continue with your new goals.
9. Follow-up care
When you leave, you have the option to be followed up in your community.
10. Who We Are
We are honored to have been externally recognized 26 times by the Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce, the Regina Chamber of Commerce, the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce for Group of the Year, Business of the Year, Community Involvement, Customer Service, Growth & Expansion and also Innovation. External nominators have included Mayors, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Chiefs of Police, Police Associations, Medical Health Officers from Health Regions, the Public Health Agency of Canada and multiple not for profit agencies. We are honored by our external nominators and humbled by the external recognition.
11. Addressing Life Circumstances
Treatment is less likely to be successful if we do not address current life circumstances. At your request, we will help you find a new job, keep your existing job, determine a new career, help you apply to college, offer marital advice and counselling, help with debt re-structuring, talk with the justice department or police, talk with social services, help apply to various provincial or federal assistance programs and so on. If you ask, we will help in any way we can.
12. Who is this Program for?
The vast majority of those suffering with mental health and addiction issues are mostly functional and employed. They include doctors, nurses, health care providers, police officers, members of the military, university professors, teachers, students, social workers, lawyers, accountants, engineers, politicians, office workers, and our hard working blue collar workers. This program is intended for the person who has a mental health or addiction issue and is mostly functional, but is finding it harder and harder to cope, and harder and harder to change.
